NOISE & VISION symposium

How have artists used film to challenge aesthetic conventions, disrupt dominant narratives, and explore the politics of the body? How have subcultural communities filmed themselves—and how have they been filmed by others? In conjunction with the exhibition UNRULY. The Body in Punk, join us at ARoS for a day of screenings, talks, and live experimentation exploring punk and underground moving-image practices. We delve into audiovisual audacity, amateurism, and archives; explosions and exposure; not to mention flies, fuses, and flapping wings. From New York’s Cinema of Transgression to transgressive acts on Dutch television and urban resistance in Japanese punk cinema, the symposium examines the intersections of DIY filmmaking, experimental sound, and radical visual expression.
